'John Carter', het kleine experimentje van Disney over een oorlogsveteraan die in een op Mars in een geheel andere wereldoorlog terechtkomt, lijkt dan toch niet het succesnummer te zijn waarop Disney zat te wachten.
Hoewel de film wereldwijd in de box office cijfers behoorlijk scoort, dreigen de cijfers in de VS ervoor te zorgen dat de film zal uitdraaien op een totale fiasco...
Een flop voor Disney
Terwijl ze bij Disney dachten 'the next best thing' gevonden te hebben, lijkt het publiek hier niet van overtuigd. Daar waar de filmstudio een budget van +250 miljoen dollar over had voor John Carter, lijkt daar in de VS nog niet eens de helft van terug binnen te komen in de kassa's van de bioscopen.
Met een verlies van om en bij de 150 miljoen euro lijkt John Carter niet alleen de flop van Disney maar ook van Hollywood te worden op vlak van cijfers. Over de kwaliteit van de film vinden we online zowel voor- als tegenstanders. Zo gaven online recenten op den website rottentomatoes.com de film 51% en het publiek 71%...
