Aangezien ze in Hollywood steeds op zoek zijn naar nieuwe dingen, hebben ze besloten nog een bekend sprookje de ultieme verfilming te geven, dat van "Jaap en de bonenstaak" of te "Jack and the beanstalk", hier gemoderniseerd naar Jack the Giant Killer. Er zijn veel zaken die voor deze verfilming spreken: Regisseur Bryan Singer maakt hier een kleine comeback (bekend van The Usual Suspects, X-men en wat misschien weinigen onder jullie weten: de eerste afleveringen van House M.D.). Ook van Nicolas Hoult wordt veel verwacht, hij is opgegroeid met About A Boy & is na Slumdog Millionaire Dev Patel de tweede acteur uit de Britse serie Skins die een grote hoofdrol op zijn naam mag schrijven, na eerdere passages in Clash of the Titans & X-men: First Class.
Last but not least: ook Ewan McGregor en Stanley Tucci zijn van de partij.
Jaap en de bonenstaak VS Jack The Giant Killer
Het verhaal van het originele sprookje gaat over Jaap die uit honger zijn laatste koe verkoopt voor bonen, hieruit groeit dan de bonenstaak, en daarboven woont een gevaarlijke (maar rijke) reus. Na passages met onder meer de kip met de gouden eieren (ah, vandaar komt dat..) vermoordt Jaap de reus op het einde door de bonenstaak om te hakken. In de film gaat het blijkbaar eerder over een gekidnapte prinses en een heuse oorlog tegen een hele bende reuzen, maar ja, het ziet er wel goed uit natuurlijk!
