Since February 2007, "Philips Consumer Luminaires" is active as a separate Business Group within the Philips Lighting sector. Philips Consumer Luminaires develops, manufactures and sells more than 10,000 (home) lighting products, focusing on European and global markets. The lighting market for consumers is of strategic importance to Philips, as the company aims to become the leader in energy-efficient lighting and is further developing the field of design in the lifestyle segment, especially focusing on technological innovations such as LED technology.

The headquarters of Philips Consumer Luminaires is located in Kontich / Belgium and within this organisation currently + / - 4,800 people work international.

Key areas of responsibility:

• As Product Designer you are responsible for development of the design ideas in the project from basic product concepts through to fully worked out design solutions. You work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to stimulate the creative process with new ideas and input (e.g., visualizations and simulations). You contribute to the outcome together with other project members on how best to solve the client’s problem. You are also responsible for guiding the creation of models and for the assessment of these models.
• You use appropriate and effective analytical and conceptual skills to increase domain knowledge and to create meaningful and innovative solutions.  You are able to analyze required information to form a relevant understanding of context (domain, business, market, emerging contexts, related trends, target groups, etc.) and to define and articulate relevant insights. You create surprising and relevant scenarios/ themes/ concepts that explore potential or articulate a proposition, based on contextual understanding.
• You use appropriate and effective visual design skills to articulate simplicity across products through interaction and interfaces; supporting business needs and increasing customer preference. You master appropriate visualization skills (sketching, 3D modeling, rendering) to define and communicate product and interaction concepts.  All this while understanding the meaning and effect of these on the brand, the audience, the market and culture.
• You are able to create functional product concepts that appropriately address the user-context requirements.  You are able to articulate simplicity through function, interaction, manufacturing, materials and finish and you can define technical opportunities and constraints and apply appropriate production technology, materials and finishes (in partnership with other stakeholders.
• You use appropriate and effective communicating and influencing skills to build relationships with teams and key decision makers and to achieve the best solutions.

Essential job requirements:

• You have a Master degree in Product Design
• You have (min 1 year) relevant experience in one or more specific business domains and in one or more markets and cultures.
• You are recognized for your expertise and talent in product design and for your specific competency knowledge and capability.
• Furthermore, you have a good understanding of manufacturing processes
• You may have won design award(s) or hold IP
• You have a strong aesthetic and visual sensitivity.
• You are passionate about Lighting
